I loved the IWS course, it clarified the world of Italian wine making easier for me the way wine is organised in Italy. Thanks a lot, from an Italian wine lover.

I took the IWS Unit 2 distance learning program with an instructor lead format through Zoom during the pandemic. The instructor, Mark Shipway, was very personable, organized and knowledgeable. He picked quality wines for students to try at the tasting classes. The WSG online forum had extra modules, maps, practice quizzes and practice flash cards to help one prepare for the exam. I am happy with the quality of this course and I would definitely sign up for other future courses.

As a Italian Italian citizen I feel more connected than ever as wine is part of out culture. Thanks for making and easily digestible course. I am sure this will give me an advantage in my career.

A big thank you to Ann and Sharon, who were excellent instructors!! I had previously done French Wine Scholar with Sharon, so I knew that her company Cru Consultancy maintained a high standard for their teachers. Ann was personable, engaging, informative and maintained a sense of humour - clearly, she enjoyed teaching the course.

I really enjoy the programs offered by the WSG and have completed both my French and Italian Wine Scholar programs. The material covers everything from history, geography and appellations, to how certain wine styles came about and the cultural importance these wines play in these areas. WSG offers a deep dive into regional wine styles in a way not given by most other wine study programs.

I'm a very big fan of WSG and I was very satisfied with all aspects of the Italian Wine Scholar program. The materials were extremely well presented, certainly very challenging, but very easy to follow. Having a WSET background, I was very impressed with details of each chapter, and the equal focus on both viticulture and vinification processes...plus the history portions of each chapter were outstanding. I plan to continue my education with the Wine Scholar Guild!

The Italian Wine Scholar is an in-depth and comprehensive view of the various regions and wines. Alan Tardi is an excellent instructor and was always willing to share his insight and answer questions. I look forward to more programs about Italy.

An excellent course for developing and deepening an understanding of the complex and fascinating wine landscape of one world's birthplaces of viticulture. This course is a fun and useful way to cover Italy's regional diversity and plethora native grapes - it certainly has made my tasting and wine cabinet more unique!
    5 1 5 Morgan Voss on Jun 19, 2020
Great program! I feel I have a much better understanding of Italian wine after completing this course. The online study materials that are provided are high-quality, easy-to-use, and set you up for success!

I found the IWS program to be a very in depth logical approach to the study of Italian wine with abundant study materials and resources that provide learners the means to absorb and retain the information being presented. The instructor led course was both informative and engaging. The entire staff was very responsive and conscientious. I look forward to future wine education classes with WSG.
    5 1 4 Mahesh Tirupattur on Jun 4, 2020
Excellent program. I found the exam to be a bit of a memorization as opposed to a visual analysis. Perhaps a couple of essays as opposed to just multiple choice and also include tasting like WSET. Maybe I am biased to Wset as that is what I took first

The IWS course opened my eyes to the incredible diversity of Italian wine, from its ancient beginnings to developments and trends of the very recent past. It effectively conveyed the unique qualities of each wine region and the dynamism many appellations are experiencing today. As a serious student of wine, the course helped to take my knowledge to the next level and inspired me to continue the journey! Mille grazie!

It’s a fantastic immersion in the wine of Italy. It created a hunger for me to delve even deeper. I am fascinated by obscure grape varieties and the chapter on Campania did not disappoint in that category. The instructors are extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and share freely what they know. I will definitely be enrolling in other WSG courses.
    5 1 5 Luis Antonio Coutinho Silva on Nov 21, 2019
The IWS program is excellent, allows an overall understanding of the diverse and sometimes confusing Italian wine world. The Instructor Led program is very effective and I learned a lot from the presentations integrated with the self-study material. I also used the Instructor Q&A Forum extensively, always receiving immediate and detailed feedback, which helped me to improve the program results.

A very comprehensive program that is written in a logical and easy to follow format. The Italian Wine Scholar program is ideal for wine professionals and wine enthusiasts that want to increase their knowledge of this fascinating subject. Highly recommended!

The IWS unit 2 course is a fascinating and comprehensive look at the wine regions of Central and Southern Italy. I recommend it strongly as a resource for sommelier students or any wine lover looking for an in depth, well presented look into the extensive history, numerous unique grape varietals, geography, and cultural/winemaking traditions of the Italian peninsula. Undoubtedly, this is the finest course available anywhere on this subject matter, conveniently available online or in a classroom format. The manual is excellent, and there is a vast amount of additional study material available online that the student can access at his or her own pace. I found the class to be a reasonable priced, outstanding educational resource, and presented by top notch instructors at a pleasant pace to absorb the enormous amount of information covered.

Italian Wine Scholar online course has provided very comprehensive materials and interactive support throughout my study to enable me to understand the history, culture, and the particular climate and rules and practices in each wine appellation. It was informative and at the same time very enjoyable!!

I truly adore WSG programs. The website is a bit too selling and colorful (The States influence, supposedly), and I was really hesitating a few month before I subscribed to FWS earlier this year. Also, there aren't many references in the web - everybody knows WSET, but WSG is relatively little known to the whole community. Coupled with the website, I was reluctant to join, but when I got my book and passed the first exam, I was really impressed. The materials are thorough and updated. Thanks to the team, can't wait to join SWS.

An excellent overview of the wines of southern Italy that has really opened my eyes to the wealth of wines in this region.

I decided to undertake the IWS Programme as I wanted to deepen my knowledge of Italian wine and feel really confident when looking at an Italian wine list in a restaurant. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it has opened up a whole new range of wine that I feel confident to try and recommend.

The Italian Wine Scholar certification is a fantastic program for people looking to prepare themselves for further wine related learning opportunities and is an absolute MUST for those that specialize in the Italian wine trade.

    Italian Wine Scholar 2 Program
Any serious professional and/or collector should consider pursuing this deep dive into Italian wines. The materials are clear, concise, and well presented. Students that put in the effort will be rewarded with a broad overview of the classic Italian regions, as well as small/overlooked areas. Further, a big picture appreciation for the history, geography, and soils of the Italian peninsula will translate into a deeper understanding of wine in general. I wholeheartedly and enthusiastically endorse this program. Thank you for creating this dynamic and fun learning experience!
    5 1 4 Kathy Merchant on Feb 7, 2019
The Italian Wine Scholar program offers a comprehensive deep-dive into one of the most complex and fascinating wine regions of the world. I took Unit 1 before the instructor-led program was available (self-study), and I can say now that Unit 2 was much more interesting and helpful with an instructor and learning community. I highly recommend the instructor-led IWS program for anyone who loves wine, Italy, and lifelong learning — whether you are an industry professional or a wine enthusiast. Kathy Merchant, IWS
