Congratulations to Dr. Matthias Schmusch for passing the Bourgogne Master Level exam with highest honors!

About Matthias:

Working in the world of finance and dealing with mergers & acquisitions for more than 20 years, I have always had a passion for wine. As time allows, I’m studying the wines of the world, with a preference for French wines (Bourgogne in particular) and the German treasures produced by the VDP member estates. To stay grounded with the topic, I’m growing my own pinot noir in my little experimental vineyard.

I started my formal wine education in 2011 with the WSET program and I completed the Level 4 Diploma in 2015. Afterwards I wanted to deepen my knowledge about German high-end wines and earned a specialist sommelier degree for VDP wines in 2018. As I was always enthusiastic about France and its wines, I enrolled in the WSG Master Bourgogne program and graduated with 100/100 points in 2020. The WSG program offered a unique experience to get a deep understanding of the world’s most fascinating wine region.

The WSG program was very useful and supported me in my efforts to set up my own wine blog and training/consulting program which I will establish in the future.
